Milnes named MVP after nine-wicket haul against Gloucestershire

The natives were restless when Matt Milnes was rested for the County Championship game with Gloucestershire at Bristol in May and they were restless again when he sat out the defeat at Derbyshire earlier this month.
In hindsight, however, even the most hardcore member of the "Harold-Larwood-Never-Got-Injured" Brigade would probably admit Kent have managed their star bowler well this season. Milnes played twice as many games this year as he had in the previous three with Yorkshire.
He was Kent's leading wicket taker, with 54 wickets in 12 appearances, at an average of 20.03, including four five-wicket hauls. He was named Player-of-the-Round by the ECB after his nine wickets against Gloucestershire helped secure promotion and the 32-year-old also came equal third in the ECB's player-of-the-season competition (voted for after each round). He was the top-ranked Division Two player, finishing alongside Craig Overton and just behind joint winners Ethan Bamber and Matthew Potts. He is also likely to pick up a series of trophies at the county's award ceremony on Wednesday night.
