“Intense,” is the word Michael Wilshaw uses to describe his opening six weeks as Kent’s Chief Executive Officer, after he succeeded the departing Simon Storey.
Wilshaw, a young-looking 52, has been a Kent Trustee for several years so the club isn’t new to him, but the pace of life in the cricket industry is a little different to his previous role in the Medical Technology industry.
That was an eight-year stint in what he describes it as a “highly-regulated sector,” building a business up from zero into a global brand.
The contrast couldn’t be a lot greater: He’s now in charge of a club that’s been around since the year Charles Dickens died and working in a sector so chaotic that Matthew Engel once described it as “Maoist”.
