Overseas Impact: Kent finally strike gold

If Kent can beat Middlesex in their next red-ball game they will have won as many matches in the first half of this season as they have in the previous three: the last time they had a similar run was in 2022, when they won four out of their last five in Division One and finished fifth.
It probably isn’t a coincidence that this was the last season in which they got more than one match-winning contribution out of an overseas player.
Overseas players are supposed to give a side an edge, something they can’t get from their homegrown talent and many of us were spoiled by the 90s crop of Carl Hooper, Aravinda de Silva and Paul Strang, the Zimbabwean who was outstanding in 1997.
