You’d have to go back a fair way to find a debutant who made the impact Dian Forrester did for Kent on Monday.
The South African helped drag The Spitfires back into a contest they looked like losing, by a biblical margin, with career best T20 figures of 3-35, then gave the chase a turbo injection with an unbeaten 35 from 18 balls, including the winning runs.
His impact was even more remarkable given he only arrived in the country on Friday afternoon, having been diverted to the IPL for a stint with the Chennai Super Kings.
Super incidentally, is a word Forrester uses a lot. Asked what it was like meeting his Kent team mates for the first time, he said they were: “super, super chilled.” Before adding: “All the boys are super friendly, they're super nice. Like, I walked in, in my civvies at Lords and got a few looks from the MCC members, who were saying, ‘What is this guy doing in here?’ But, yeah, it was super, super easy.”
