Day one of the 2nd XI game with Sussex at Polo Farm didn’t go as Kent might have hoped. Ben Compton retired out on nine with what looked like a hand injury, although he was seen batting in the nets at the St. Lawrence on Tuesday morning.
Sadly none of the players hoping to break into the first XI made serious runs, as Kent were dismissed for 196. Joey Evison was the top scorer with 44 and Compton’s fellow opener Ben Dawkins made 19. Harry Finch was bowled for 10 and Ekansh Singh went for five, while the second-highest scorer was Corey Flintoff with 30.
Ekansh had better luck with the ball, taking two for 29 and Michael Cohen bowled 8-0-30-1, but Jas Singh struggled, bowling seven wicketless overs for 46 runs. Sussex ended day one on 191 for five.
