Essex Preview: favourites to underdogs in less than a fortnight

It’s not even a fortnight since Kent were 6/4 favourites to beat Essex in the first instalment of The Battle of The Bridge, but the same bookmakers are now offering 11/10 on the hosts winning round two at Chelmsford on Tuesday night.
Both sides have won three and lost two in the South Group, but Essex are unbeaten since their nine-wicket win at the St. Lawrence. They also have a significantly better run rate, having beaten Derbyshire by five wickets in their crossover fixture at Chelmsford before they thrashed Essex by 60 runs at Merchant Taylors, or Northwood, as its known if you’re trying to make it sound slightly less like a venue plucked at random from The Cricketer’s riveting school supplement.
