The first of sports journalism, to go alongside all the other first rules, is that the more you hope a rumour is false, the more likely it is to be true.
We were still digesting Friday’s defeat at Derby, when a story came out of Bangladesh that Hasan Mahmud was being recalled by the BCB, ahead of their series with Afghanistan, West Indies and South Africa.
This was confirmed on Monday morning, with Kent Director of Cricket Simon Cook saying: “We’re disappointed to have lost Hasan’s services for the County Championship run-in, but we respect the decision made by the BCB after constructive talks, and wish him well this Winter.
