It was déjà vu all over again on Friday, when it was confirmed that Kent’s South African pace bowler Glenton Stuurman had been ruled out for the rest of his spell at the St. Lawrence.
The words “club statement” are never followed by good news and in a post this morning Stuurman’s quad injury was said to be “worse than first feared”.
The pessimists at Canterbury during the draw with Northants were spreading the news that he was done for the season well before the official announcemet was made - a similar scenario unfolded last year when the entire ground knew about Keith Dudgeon’s season-ending injury almost as soon as it happened.
The news is wretched for Stuurman, who took three for 64 and two for 43 at Durham, and for Kent, whose putrid luck with bowlers continues.
