The Durham Debrief: Tawanda thrives as Kent survive

The first debrief of the summer: the prodigal Sam, the prodigious Tawanda, the problematic Zak. Seven talking points after Kent's opening draw with Durham.

DURHAM ESCAPE ...

One of cricket’s standing jokes is to say that Team X have escaped with a draw, after they’ve battered Team Y for four days only to be denied by the weather, the umpires, bad luck or a combination of all of the above.

It’s had several airings over the last couple of years when Kent have played, but it’s not entirely fair when we’re talking about the draw at Chester-le-Street. When the teams shook hands on day four, Kent needed another 123 runs with five wickets in hand. And yes, all the usual caveats apply, and yes Durham probably would have been favourites, but that’s a long way from a foregone conclusion.
