Sam Northeast was Kent's top scorer with 87 on day one of the County Championship game with Middlesex at Merchant Taylor's School, anchoring the innings through some difficult conditions.
"There were definitely periods where we had to soak up a bit of pressure," he said. "They bowled well, but I think we are in a good position. It seems to have done a little bit all through the day and we are hoping that is going to continue for us during our bowling innings and maybe it might spin later in the game as well. We are happy with the day's work."
He also had a front row seat as Zak Crawley produced his best innings of the season, a composed 81 that was only ended by an absolute jaffa from Higgins.
