Adam Hollioake has named a 15-man squad for Tuesday’s County Championship game with Lancashire, with Ben Dawkins and Jas Singh both recalled and Hasan Mahmud out, after his recall by Bangladesh.
Whittling that 15 down to 11 is not easy and The Spitfire’s guess is that there as many as six places up for grabs. Daniel Bell-Drummond will captain and Matt Milnes will play if he’s fit. So will Chris Benjamin, with Harry Finch sidelined by injury. His keeping may not yet make him the heir to Alan Knott, but the sheer weight of runs he adds outweighs the occasional lapses.
Sam Northeast had an-off game at Derby but so did pretty much everyone else and he scored a crucial 132 vs Worcestershire, while an adequately-rested Keith Dudgeon definitely makes the XI.
