Getting worse ...
... forget the optimism about it blowing over quickly, we're in a downpour here. Think we're going to lose at least an hour now.

We're NOT starting on time. The rain is light, but too heavy for us to begin and the covers are on. Umpires seem to think it won't be too long.
Seems to be sweeping in from the Wincheap direction. Celebrity news: after Mark Steele was here yesterday, Peter Drury is in the house today.

Morning everyone, as a very wise man used to say. Play gets underway in just under half an hour. Weather very changeable, it was dark in our nation's glorious capital (Maidstone) this morning, it's currently sunny in Canterbury but there are banks of cloud overhead - and as soon as I write that, it begins to spit with rain.
The first issue this morning is, will Sam Northeast get his first century since rejoining the county? He's on 96 and the final overs last night were eventful to put it mildly. He survived an adjacent shout for lbw and then went for a huge yahoo off the very last ball and will be very happy he didn't connect.
As Mark Doig points out, he may not have slept well last night.
