The Spitfire’s mission is to provide dedicated, independent coverage of Kent County Cricket Club and we’ll be joining the Counter Press stable for the 2026 season as they look to revitalise coverage of the county game.

The editor is Fred Atkins, who has covered KCCC for the past five years and followed them for the last 30.

Previously a sports editor for the Kent Messenger, Fred has also worked for the Associated Press and is currently the Kent correspondent for both the ECB Reporters Network and Wisden.

He has written several books, including Monty Panesar’s autobiography “The Full Monty” and “The Spitfire Diaries,” a journal of the 2021 season, when Kent emerged from the COVID lockdown to win the Vitality Blast.

We will provide:

  • old-school, long-form journalism
  • news
  • features
  • in-depth reports
  • interviews
  • opinions
  • history
  • and an ongoing diary.

We won't provide:

  • Clickbait and ragebait
  • "Takes" - hot, lukewarm, or otherwise
  • Articles suffixed with the words "AI assisted in the writing of this article".

You can find all of these elsewhere.

Ninety percent of the content will be exclusively for members. You can subscribe for as little as £5 per month and you can cancel at any time.

If you are interested in contributing or collaborating we are open to offers. Please email fred@thespitfire.news.
